The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a globally recognized professional organization and standards-setting body in the field of mechanical engineering. ASME develops internationally adopted codes and standards governing the design, fabrication, and inspection of plant facilities, including boilers, pressure vessels, and piping systems. These ASME standards are widely used around the world and function as global benchmarks for ensuring quality and safety. The Lewis F. Moody Award, established in 1958, is a prestigious and long-standing award presented for outstanding original papers that make significant and practical contributions to the field of mechanical and fluid engineering. It is extremely rare for engineers from Japanese industry to receive this award. The receipt of this honor represents compelling evidence of the high technical expertise and advanced engineering capabilities of the JGC Group's engineers.
In the award-winning paper, the authors conducted a detailed investigation using advanced computational techniques to analyze the behavior of a single jet and multiple jets under crosswind conditions. The study clarified differences in the formation and development of vortical structures, as well as in heat transfer characteristics, within the airflow.
These findings are expected to be applied to a wide range of areas in the LNG sector, including the selection of plant construction sites, improvements in liquefaction process efficiency, and optimization of equipment design. Furthermore, through their application to the JGC Group's proprietary technologies--AIRLIZE LNG®1, which contributes to maximizing the productivity and availability of air-cooled LNG plants, and HARview®2--the findings are expected to enhance plant reliability, reduce CO₂ emissions, and improve operational flexibility. Ultimately, these efforts will further strengthen and differentiate the JGC Group's technological proposal capabilities in the LNG field.
The JGC Group will continue to provide innovative solutions to the complex challenges facing the global energy industry through its outstanding technological capabilities and sustained human resource development.
