Ha Tay Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company
Solid Dosage Facility Project -Vietnam

In its long-term management vision "2040 Vision", the JGC Group defines "Enhancing planetary health" as its purpose, which has led to it taking on the challenge of transforming itself into a "company and group that contributes to the improvement of planetary health" by diversifying its involvement in various business areas. The company’s response to this challenge is evidenced in recent activity in the Healthcare and Life Sciences business area as demonstrated by its focus on expanding its business in the fields of pharmaceuticals, medical devices and foodstuffs, both in Japan and overseas, particularly in South-East Asia.

ASKA Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. invested in Ha Tay Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company (hereinafter referred to as Hataphar), a major pharmaceutical company in Vietnam, in January 2021 and planned to build a new solid dosage facility. This solid dosage facility was an important project for both companies, as it was the first facility for Hataphar to comply with PIC/S GMP, the international standard for pharmaceuticals, and the first plant construction in Vietnam for ASKA Pharmaceuticals.

In May 2021, based on the company's extensive experience in the pharmaceutical sector JGC Corporation, together with JGC Vietnam, was awarded the project in recognition of its technically advanced and comprehensive proposals, which included a layout that would lead to improved quality and productivity, and an equipment layout that would be cost-minimizing from both the manufacturing facility and construction perspectives.

One project manager was appointed from JGC Corporation’s headquarters, and JGC Vietnam engineers took the lead in executing the project. In order to achieve good quality and safety standards, efforts were made to ensure that the construction was faithful to the design, to foster a culture of mutual respect and care, and to manage the schedule thoroughly.

During the project implementation, lectures on PIC/S GMP as well as EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) were conducted in Vietnamese for Hataphar, which contributed to improving the skills of employees working at the plant and ensuring the stable operation of the plant. The lectures not only shared knowledge of GMP, but also brought the company closer to the customer, which was one factor in making conduct of the project more reliable and smoother.

In the different cultures of Japan and Vietnam, JGC Corporation and JGC Vietnam worked together to seamlessly execute the project from design to construction, and despite the difficulties of execution in the Covid-19 situation, the project was completed on time with no accidents in June 2023.

JGC Group will continue to work on overseas pharmaceutical projects as a good companion to our customers, utilizing our proposal and project execution capabilities as a general engineering company and our local subsidiaries, including JGC Vietnam, as a global company.
