This project, led by Shell and its JV partners, aims to liquefy domestically produced natural gas on the west coast of Canada and export mainly to Asian markets. A joint venture between the JGC Group and US company Fluor was awarded the contract, which officially came into effect in October 2018. This is the single largest project in the Group's history.
This is an important project as it is Canada's first large-scale LNG export terminal and the largest private investment in Canada to date. To meet client expectations and ensure thorough risk management, modular construction method, which is one of the JGC Group's strengths, was adopted. The module construction method was refined based on the knowledge gained during the execution of the Australian Ichthys LNG Project and the Russian Yamal LNG Project, which were completed in 2018, and the integrated large-scale module concept (J-I-Module) developed by the Group has also been implemented. The modular construction method is being utilized to the maximum extent possible as a key to success, with the aim of completing construction and commencing operation in the mid-2020s.
