JGC formed a joint venture with KBR of the U.S. and Tecnicas Reunidas, a Spanish engineering company, to land a contract for a project in 2001 from Union Fenosa, a Spanish power company. The project was completed in 2004.
This project was to build a natural gas liquefaction plant with an annual production capacity of around 5 million tons, gas treatment units, storage tanks, offsite utilities, etc., in Damietta of Egypt on the coast of the Mediterranean to allow Union Fenosa to switch its fuel for thermal power generation to LNG.
It was JGC's first project to construct an LNG plant in Egypt, but to complete the plant, the company persevered in efforts made by the joint venture consisting of multinational staff. As a result, the project was successfully completed at an unprecedented pace.
