JGC jointly acquired the contract for this project in 2005 with Technip and KBR, from Yemen LNG, a joint venture formed by seven companies led by Total. The project was completed in 2009.

The decision to carry out construction for this project was the result of the signing of a long-term sales contract to supply virtually all of the LNG produced to countries such as the U.S. and South Korea with the dramatic global rise in demand for LNG in 2005. But it was a project that took 13 long years until EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) began when considering that the idea was first proposed in 1992.

After EPC began, the project ran into numerous problems such as material and labor shortages due to a global boom in plant construction, and the lack of infrastructure in Yemen. But JGC successfully completed the project in cooperation with the partner, Technip.

As the result of this project, JGC established a track record of executing EPC in all the Gulf oil and gas producing states with the exception of Iraq.
