JGC Catalysts and Chemicals Expands Kitakyushu Site

– Reinforcing production and development for semiconductors and other growth markets –

Yokohama, Japan - JGC Holdings Corporation has announced the acquisition of an additional 50,000 square meters of land by JGC Catalysts & Chemicals Ltd.(C&C), a JGC Group company involved in functional materials manufacturing. The lot lies next to the company's existing site in Wakamatsu in the city of Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, and will be used to expand business operations. Acquired in February this year, the lot will nearly double the size of the Kitakyushu Operation Center and further reinforce production and development in growth markets such as semiconductors.

Functional materials manufacturing is internally positioned as a growth business in the JGC Group's 2040 Vision and it is targeted for investment as a pillar of future earnings by 2030. JGC C&C fulfills a core role in the Group's functional materials manufacturing. Focused on production and development of inorganic functional materials, the company is actively expanding business in catalysts and adsorbents, environmental/new energy materials, and fine chemicals. These products are broadly used in the energy, environment, semiconductor, electronics, telecommunication, and cosmetics industries.

C&C has been engaged in product development and business expansion focused on unmatched technologies, applying original nanomaterials and nano- technologies cultivated over many decades. Nanomaterials are now used in more applications than ever, in semiconductor production and beyond. C&C has been expanding business in these growth areas by establishing product development and volume production to meet clients' needs for next-generation technologies. In response to accelerated digital transformation and decarbonization, for example, the company is expanding production of new fine chemical products such as semiconductor polishing particles, high-speed communications materials, and catalysts and adsorbents for high-performance products supporting decarbonization.

The land acquisition is part of facility investment for further growth that will continue through 2030, strengthening production facilities and business infrastructure in the Kitakyushu and Niigata operations. It will ensure that C&C can meet growing demand for product lines that include materials for semiconductor production and catalysts for high-performance chemicals, as the company builds its framework to support business growth over the medium to long term.

Production of silica-based product lines mainly for semiconductor applications (such as polishing particles and low dielectric constant substrate fillers) will be consolidated at the newly expanded Kitakyushu site, which will become a core area for high-performance functional materials manufacturing and development. Effective use of C&C sites will improve productivity and accelerate development.

To meet client needs and contribute to growth of the JGC Group, we will continue to hone functional materials expertise and ensure a stable supply of high-performance functional products and materials to satisfy higher demand in the semiconductor industry and other growth markets.
