October 4, 2022 - JGC Holdings Corporation (JGC HD) and JX Nippon Oil and Gas Exploration Corporation (JX) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) on Joint Collaboration Study (the Study), which aims to study the potential CCS (*1) development in Malaysia.

The collaboration study targets not only CO2 from Malaysia, but it also seeks to expand the possibility to permanently store CO2 from overseas such as Japan. JGC HD, JX, and PETRONAS will combine knowledge and experiences to construct the entire CCS value chain, from CO2 separation, capturing, transportation, injection, and storage.

This collaboration study aims to achieve sustainable economic growth and carbon neutrality in Asia through energy transitions. The Study may also lead to adjacent opportunities in other related businesses e.g. low carbon solutions and blue hydrogen or blue ammonia, which would help accelerate the energy transitions in Asia region.

In the JGC Group's medium-term management plan, "Building a Sustainable Planetary Infrastructure 2025," one of the strategy is the expansion of business in the CCS sector. JGC Group has a rich track record of building CCS facilities not only in Japan, but also in Algeria and Australia. The company also provides technical consulting services with energy and environmental themes, combining various methods such as surveys, analysis and evaluation, simulation, and risk assessment, and contribute to the realization of CCS through the provision of a wide range of solutions.
