JGC Awarded Contract for Contact Lens Manufacturing Plant Project in Malaysia

Yokohama, Japan - JGC Holdings Corporation (Representative Director, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer: Masayuki Sato) announces that JGC Corporation and JGC ASIA PACIFIC PTE. LTD. have been awarded the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract for a contact lens manufacturing plant project in Kulim High-Tech Park, Kedah, Malaysia for Menicon Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., a subsidiary of Menicon Co., Ltd.

As the global population of nearsighted people increases, the demand for contact lenses for vision correction applications is expected to grow.

In response to this growing global demand for contact lenses, Menicon Corporation will build a new manufacturing plant in Malaysia to increase its contact lens production capacity and ensure a stable supply of contact lenses on a global basis.

The JGC Group has been involved in the basic concept of the project since 2019, providing support for the selection of candidate construction sites and economic feasibility studies, and was awarded the basic design services contract in 2020 and since then has been supporting the client's final investment decision for the project through technical and cost reduction proposals that take into account productivity and energy management to reduce the environmental impact of the plant. We believe that these efforts were highly evaluated by the client and led to the award of this project.

As part of its medium-term management plan "BSP2025", the JGC Group has identified "Expansion of EPC business in growth markets and fields" as a key strategy, and is strengthening its sales and project execution capabilities in the Asia-Pacific region in the life sciences and other infrastructure fields by establishing JGC Asia Pacific Pte Ltd on 1 January this year.
