Naming Ceremony Held for Malaysia's PETRONAS FLNG Project

Yokohama, Japan - JGC Holding Corporation announced today that the naming ceremony for an FLNG (FLNG: floating liquefied natural gas) facility, named PFLNG DUA, meaning PETRONAS' second floating LNG facility, was held. The engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning project for the facility has been undertaken jointly by JGC Group and Samsung Heavy Industries of South Korea.

Many people invloved including Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad; President and Group CEO of PETRONAS, Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin; Representative Director and President of JGC Corporation, Tetsuya Muramoto; and President and Chief Executive Officer of Samsung Heavy Industries, Joon Ou Nam took part in the ceremony held on November 27 at Samsung Heavy Industries's Geoje Shipyard in South Korea. In the event, spouse of the Prime Minister of Malaysia Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah Bt Mohd Ali cut the guy rope as the Lady Sponsor of the facility. The hull is 333 meters long, 64 meters wide, and 31 meters high. With an topside LNG production capacity of 1,500,000 tons annually and capable of developing deepsea gas fields up to 1,500 meters in depth, it will represent the leading edge in FLNG.

In this project, JGC Group and Samsung Heavy Industries will complete the hull and topside facility by February 2020, when the facility will set sail for the deepwater Rotan Gas Field, offshore from Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, Malaysia, where it will operate. The group will continue the installment of the hull and commissioning towards starting of operation.

JGC Group has executed EPC projects including all nine trains of the LNG plants at the PETRONAS onshore LNG complex at Bintulu, Malaysia over the last four decades, strengthening a trusting relationship with PETRONAS. We are determined to continue to contribute to the realization of the business plans of PETRONAS in promoting the utilization of cleaner energy sources.
