Completion of Two Mega-Solar Projects in Vietnam
Yokohama, Japan - JGC Corporation has announced the on-schedule completion of two mega-solar power plant projects in the Tay Ninh province of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The two contracts, which were awarded to JGC and its subsidiary, JGC Vietnam, for the engineering, procurement and construction work for the projects were signed in May and July of 2018. The opening ceremony was held on 19 June of this year.
The power generation business using the constructed two Mega-solar plants is leaded by the TTC Group (*1) and the Gulf Energy Development PLC (*2). The plants produce around 120 MW (DC), sufficient to power approximately 83,000 typical households per year.
Following on from the completion by the JGC Group of a separate mega-solar power plant project in December of last year, the addition of the two most recent plants means that the plants constructed by the group now have a total output of 190 MW (DC). The group plans to continue its involvement in the provision of renewable energy in Vietnam by seeking new orders including those in the field of wind power generation facilities.
Increasing involvement in the field of infrastructure is one of the key policies included in the company's 5-year plan, "Beyond the Horizon", starting from fiscal year 2016. Renewable energy is one of the principal areas included in this plan and the company has engaged in a number of EPC projects in large-scale mega-solar and biomass power generation plants both in Japan and overseas. The obtaining of orders and the performance of contracts in concert with the group's member company in Vietnam is considered as a model case for the further expansion of the group's activities in the field of overseas infrastructure and this approach is to be followed in boosting the company's involvement in providing renewable energy infrastructure in other countries ofin Southeast Asian countriesand other areas.
