There are expectations for the potential of regenerative medicine to become a trump card in contemporary medicine as a solution to illnesses that are difficult to treat through conventional surgical or medicinally treatments. This facility was constructed with the aim of culturing cells for the purpose of making autologous cultured epidermis, autologous cultured cartilage, etc., for use in regenerative medicine.

Back in 2005, there were still no cell culturing facilities in Japan aimed at regenerative medicine, and the facility constructed by JGC was the first of its kind in Japan (with the exception of research facilities). This meant that there was a lack of clear guidelines on how such a facility should be built. JGC overcame numerous difficulties while negotiating and making adjustments with the client and related government agencies, before successfully completing the project.
