JGC Selected "2019 Noteworthy IT Strategy Company"

Yokohama, Japan - JGC Corporation announced today that it has been selected as one of the "2019 Noteworthy IT Strategy Companies" by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

The selection was based on JGC's advanced efforts in the utilization of digital technology, such as improving plant construction productivity using wireless sensors and 3D data, and establishing a system to support the yield improvement of LNG plants.

Under the "IT Grand Plan 2030" formulated in December 2018, JGC will proactively apply digitalized AI and IoT to its business activities.

About 'Noteworthy IT Strategy Company'

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) have jointly been conducting a selection of outstanding companies for their efforts in IT utilization. This year, 29 companies are selected as the "Competitive IT Strategy Company Stock Selection Program" and 20 companies are selected as the "Noteworthy IT Strategy Companies Program" from approximately 3,600 listed companies.

Praised Efforts

  • Improving plant construction productivity using wireless sensors and 3D data

At overseas plant construction sites, where thousands to tens of thousands of workers are engaged, improving labor productivity, automation, and labor-saving are key issues. JGC has developed and is promoting the use of FieldOpt, a support system for contruction productivity improvement that combines real-time positioning of workers and construction equipment using wireless sensors (RFID: radio frequency identification) and detailed control of construction sequences using 3D CAD data.

  • LNG plant yield improvement support system

In some LNG plants, the yield rate depends on surrounding environments, such as temperature and wind direction, which cause problems in operation. JGC has developed "AIRLIZE LNG®" to increase production through simulating operation optimization by utilizing technology related to CFD (computational fluid dynamics) and meteorological data sensing, and are working to improve the productivity of LNG plants.
