The project location is the Prelude and Concerto gas fields 475 km north-northeast of Broome in the Australian state of Western Australia. The project called for the construction of the world's largest FLNG facility, to produce 3.6 million tons of LNG per year using natural gas from the Prelude and Concerto gas fields as feedstock. The FLNG module, hull and topside, was to be constructed in South Korea and upon completion towed to the target gas field off the coast.
Following the final investment decision (FID) in May 2011, contractors in Europe and South Korea proceeded with the design, procurement and construction of the FLNG facility. As construction reached a peak in 2016, Shell and its partners issued a contract to JGC to provide construction management and completion support services, for project completion as planned, while ensuring safety.
The JGC Group had previously undertaken a number of projects for Shell in various regions of the world and was able to meet the customer's expectations as the Project was successfully completed in 2018. Gas production started in December of the same year.
