JGC Awarded Onshore EPCI Contract for Tangguh UCC Project in Indonesia
JGC Holdings Corporation (Representative Director, Chairman and CEO Masayuki Sato) announced today that through its local subsidiary P.T. JGC Indonesia, the company has been awarded an Onshore Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation (EPCI) Contract for the Tangguh UCC Project in Indonesia by BP Berau, Ltd., operator of the Tangguh LNG Plant, located in Papua Barat Province, Indonesia. The value of the lump sum turnkey contract is approximately USD 2.4 Billion.
The awarded EPCI Contract is for part of an integrated project known as the Tangguh LNG EGR/CCUS Project comprising Ubadari field development, enhanced gas recovery through carbon capture, utilization and storage (EGR/CCUS) and onshore compression, operated by BP Berau, Ltd.
With the award of the Onshore EPCI Contract for the Tangguh UCC Project, JGC will be responsible for installation of the onshore compression facilities at the Tangguh LNG Plant.
The purpose of the integrated EGR/CCUS Project is to separate the reservoir CO2 from produced gas and reinject it back into the offshore Vorwata gas field for sequestration and enhanced gas recovery.
New units at the onshore LNG facility mainly consist of Hydrocarbon Compressors (2,350 MMSCFD) to boost natural gas pressure from the existing gas wells, EGR Compressors (270 MMSCFD) to collect and compress acid gas from the existing acid gas removal unit, and a newly-built combined cycle power plant as well as associated utilities.
At the JGC Group, we view CCS, which injects and stores CO2 underground, and CCUS, which goes a step further in the effective utilization of CO2, as two technology solutions which can address a globally accelerating trend toward decarbonization coupled with increasing energy demand in emerging economies. The JGC Group has built a reputation as a leading contractor in CCS. Our track record of construction includes projects such as our first CCS facility at an Algerian natural gas refinery in 2004, CCS installation at an Australian LNG plant as one of the world's largest, and one of Japan's first large-scale CCS pilot projects in Hokkaido.
With our participation in this Project, the JGC Group will continue to develop our expertise and know-how in the field of CCS/CCUS technology and will continuously contribute valuable solutions that support decarbonization of the global energy industry.
