JGC Awarded a Chemical Products Contract Manufacturing Facility Construction Project
JGC HOLDINGS CORPORATION is pleased to announce today that JGC JAPAN CORPORATION, which operates the domestic engineering business of the JGC Group, has been awarded a contract for engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services for a project by Light Chemical Industries Co., Ltd., a company specializing in the contract manufacturing of chemical products, to build a second plant adjacent to its headquarters plant in Shiga Prefecture, with delivery targeted for 2023.
Currently, the chemical industry in Japan is facing increasing needs for wide-variety and small-amount production, and diversifying production methods in response to the growing demand for highly functional chemicals against the backdrop of the progress of 5G (5th generation mobile communication systems) and the acceleration of moves toward low-carbon manufacturing and decarbonization. In this project, Light Chemical Industries will build a second plant in order to expand opportunities for contract production to meet the diverse needs of chemical companies.
JGC Japan Corporation participated from the basic engineering stage of the client's second plant construction plan, making the most of its expertise accumulated through the engineering and construction of numerous chemical plants. In this project, based on a deep understanding of the concept of the new plant, the company will utilize its comprehensive capabilities as an engineering company to realize a design concept that is flexible enough to allow for future facility expansion and remodeling, and an environmentally friendly concept that prioritizes the health of local residents and client employees. Further, we will aim for efficient and optimal project execution in accordance with the client's structure.
As the needs for chemical products continue to diversify worldwide, the JGC Group will continue to aggressively pursue orders for projects that meet customer needs by leveraging its accumulated knowledge in chemical plant construction.

Light Chemical Industries Co., Ltd. was established in 1966, and is headquartered in Yasu City, Shiga Prefecture. As a company specializing in contract manufacturing of chemical products, they do not have their own products, do not conduct R&D, and do not have a sales department. The company supports the scale-up process from laboratory to actual equipment, speeds up development and commercialization, and supports small- and medium-volume production for data collection and product start-up by the main production plant of the contractor.
Their specialties include high-viscosity, high-pressure, low-temperature, and high-temperature polymerization, water- and oxygen-free polymerization (coordination polymerization of ethylene, etc., living anionic polymerization, living cationic polymerization), conversion of slurry liquids into large quantities of powder, polymerization of hazardous materials into devolatilized pellets, and precision organic synthesis (including distillation and purification processes).
