24SEP2012 JGC Subsidiary Awarded Contract for
Aromatics Plant Project in Saudi Arabia

Yokohama JapanJGC Corporation announced today that its wholly-owned Saudi Arabian subsidiary, JGC Gulf International Co. Ltd., has been awarded a contract for an aromatics plant project from Sadara Chemical Company (Sadara), a joint venture between Saudi Arabia Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) and The Dow Chemical Company.

The lump-sum turnkey contract calls for engineering, procurement, and construction services for an aromatics plant in Saudi Arabia's Jubail region. The plant is scheduled to be completed in 2014.

Sadara will construct, own and operate a world-scale integrated chemicals complex in Saudi Arabia's Jubail Industrial City II. The aromatics plant project awarded to JGC Gulf International will be one of the key upsteam manufacturing units in the Sadara complex. In recent, years, Saudi Arabia has introduced comprehensive policies to diversify national industry and raise the national employment rate. In light of this, JGC established an EPC subsidiary in Saudi Arabia in 2008, ahead of other major Japanese engineering firms, and since then has built up a strong performance record of projects that address local needs. For the Sadara Project, JGC Gulf International was selected for the contract award due to its project execution abilities and performance record in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as its cost-competitiveness. Furthermore, since JGC Gulf International will be able to conduct all EPC work within the Kingdom, the Sadara Project holds enormous value in bringing JGC's globalization initiative directly in line with the Kingdom's initiatives to strengthen domestic industry.

Currently, JGC has been working toward the goal of strengthening and expanding its overseas EPC subsidiaries, as laid out in its current medium-term management plan, "New Horizon 2015." Through the Sadara Project, JGC Gulf International is expected to be able to further improve its project execution abilities.
