Two CDM Projects Receive Government Approval

Yokohama, Japan - JGC Corporation announced that two CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) Projects in China have been sanctioned by the Japanese government, as the investor country, on January 25, 2008 following their approval by the host government on November 27, 2007.

Projects outline
Site Location
Partner in China
Annual CO2 Reduction
1.
Ordos, Inner Mongolia
Autonomous Region
Elion Jidong Cement Co., Ltd.
377,000 tons
2.
Quzhou, Zhejiang Province
Jutai Building Material Co., Ltd.
172,000 tons

These projects involve the construction of two cement plants which will make use of carbide residue (calcium hydroxide), from neighboring vinyl chloride manufacturing facilities to replace the CO2 – generating limestone (calcium carbonate) normally used in the cement production process when the intermediate material, clinker, is produced.

By introducing the system, the plants can make effective use of waste material, achieve energy savings, and contribute to environmental conservation. In addition to purchasing CER (Certified Emission Reduction) equivalent to a total of 500,000 tons of CO2 annually from these projects, JGC will also continue to provide assistance in project execution and in the monitoring of the amount of CO2 emission reductions.

These, and other initiatives, demonstrate JGC’s commitment to continued participation in the CDM business as part of its contribution to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions.
