Refinery

Client The Bahrain Petroleum Company
Location Sitrah/Bahrain
Completion 2007
Scope EPCM
Capacity 60,000 BPSD

Promoted by BAPCO, the state-owned oil company of the Kingdom of Bahrain, this project involved adding a Hydrocracking Unit, Sulfur Recovery Unit (SRU) and a Hydrogen Unit onto the existing facilities at BAPCO's oil refinery in Sitrah, to enable production of low-sulfur diesel oil.

After tough competition between European and American contractors, in 2004, JGC was awarded a lump-sum turnkey EPCM (Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management) contract for this project, including a provision of commissioning support.

JGC believes that we were selected for award of the contract not only for our abilities in engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning, but also for the project finance support we were able to offer the client.

Though it was difficult to construct new facilities within an existing refinery, project execution progressed smoothly, and the client was favorably impressed with the quality of the completed plant, helping us to forge a deeper relationship of trust. JGC has conducted many projects in Bahrain since the 1970's. This project only deepened our ties of trust with the country, and in the future we will continue to work toward meeting Bahrain's market demands.
